The app page also lists the in app purchases note, which only indicates the option of doing that exists - not that it's a requirement. Looking at the low ratings, a lot of the "but it's not free!" complaints are that you can install it without an up front cost, then get hit with the account and subscription requirement. Those who use it or can use it should please try and give the rating it deserves
I don't think this problem can ever be solved, some people just assume without basis that if an app is free to install then it's gonna be free to use (this is further reinforced by all the crappy free VPNs out there that are downloaded millions of times by non-tech savvy people), and then they rate 1 star because they're too stupid to admit they were too lazy to read the description.įor VPNs, you generally get what you pay for - free ones inevitably suck in some way, either functionally or with a privacy destroying business model.
That's more straightforward than Netflix for example, which at no point in their description states that their service is a paid monthly subscription, but you don't see 1 star reviews complaining that the app is tricking you into installing it so you can pay a subscription later.Įven other VPNs like NordVPN are way less straightforward than Mozilla is being here, it's only at the very bottom of their description that you find there's a free trial and then it's a paid subscription, and yet there's no 1 star reviews there complaining about that fact. There is literally no place in the description stating the service the app provides is free, the 2nd paragraph straight up tells you the price you're gonna have to pay. They start on the wrong foot, then complain that Mozilla is the one being underhanded because they don't want to acknowledge their own lack of reading capabilities. Because they install without reading the app description.
